HYDERABAD: With his campaign to get Prakash Raj elected as president of Movie Artistes Association (MAA) not giving the expected results, actor K Naga Babu, younger brother of megastar Chiranjeevi, announced on Monday that he was quitting MAA.
“I do not wish to continue in the association that has raked up the local/non-local issue during the elections. My resignation will be sent to the association through my staff in 48 hours,” he said.
He explained that he had made a conscious decision and was not influenced by anyone to quit MAA.
Prakash Raj was the first to question when elections to MAA would be held. Naga Babu threw in his lot with Prakash Raj in the battle for supremacy in the association. Just a day before the elections, he also reiterated that Prakash Raj was close to Chiranjeevi – in what obviously was an attempt at getting the support of all admirers of Chiranjeevi.
Late on Sunday night, after the results of the elections trickled in, there was gloom in the Prakash Raj camp. The national award winner, however, put up a brave front and formally congratulated Vishnu for winning in the election.
Actor and Jana Sena Party (JSP) leader Pawan Kalyan, younger brother of Chiranjeevi, actor Ram Charan Tej, Chiranjeevi’s son made it a point to vote in the elections. However, Chiranjeevi himself did not openly speak out who he was supporting in the polls, though it was obvious.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Naga Babu had contested from the Narsapuram constituency as a candidate of his brother Pawan Kalyan’s JSP but lost in the polls.
