TUTICORIN: A lightning strike killed a fisherman onboard a boat in the sea off Tuticorin coast on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as B Antony Jesuraj, 28, of Vellapatti village near Ottapidaram in Tuticorin district.
He went for fishing with his elder brother B Sathish, 30, in a small fishing vessel on Thursday night. After fishing, the brothers were returning to the Vellapatti shore around 7 am on Friday when lightning struck the younger brother.
Fellow fishermen rushed him to the Thoothukudi Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared as dead on arrival.
The Tharuvaikulam marine police registered a case of unnatural death under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedures (CrPC) and investigated. The body will be handed over to his relatives after autopsy.
Lightning strikes have claimed more than half a dozen lives in Tuticorin in the last couple of weeks.
